I’ve Been Sticking to Social Media Free Weekends… Here’s What I’ve Noticed

A month ago I committed to taking a conscious step back from social media. Now, Friday afternoon to Monday morning, I delete all the apps. For me, mainly Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok, where most of my social media time is spent.

I was curious to see how, if at all, my weekends would differ. And the results have been surprising. Here’s what I’ve realized:

1) I Get Ready Faster

There’s really not much sidetracking me when it comes to getting ready and getting on with my day. I don’t linger in the bathroom or in bed, scrolling to see what the world is up to. I just get up and go!

2) I’m Connecting More

If you’ve ever sat on the couch with the TV on, mindlessly scrolling through social media apps, then you know what I mean. I’m spending more time focusing on the present moment, and engaging in face-to-face conversations with the people around me. I’m out physically doing things more instead of sitting around looking at what others are up to. The phone goes away at dinner time, and stays away for the majority of the night. I hadn’t realized how integral it had become in my typical evenings out.

3) I Don’t Have “FOMO”

To be honest, I haven’t once wondered what the rest of the world is up to. And furthermore, I NEVER feel left out. If you can’t see all of this happening, you don’t worry about not being there. Besides, if my friends want me to know something or be somewhere, they’ll get in touch.

4) My Sub-Conscious Doesn’t Register

I can’t tell you how many times my finger goes to click the exact spot on my phone instagram was…. even though it’s no longer there. CRAZY! I don’t even realize I’m doing it. Isn’t that wild?

All in all, I’m loving taking this step back. It’s been great to connect with family and friends on a deeper level, as well as stop wasting so much time “scrolling” around. I’m excited to continue this journey. Interested in trying it out? Let me know! I couldn’t encourage it more!
