COVID-19: FOUR REMEDIES THAT HELPED RELIEVE MY CASE

It’s the first blog post of 2022, and COVID-19 is STILL with us. This past week I tested positive and although vaccinated, my case kicked me on my butt.

Symptoms: congestion, high fever, brain fog, loss of taste & smell, and an infection in my finger (random, I know)

I tried many holistic health remedies to sooth the symptoms. Here are the 4 that actually helped:

  1. Neti Pot

    My congestion was like nothing else I’d ever experienced. Sleeping seemed out of the question. While there are crazy helpful decongestants out there, like Afrin, many are only meant for a couple days and come with severe side effects: Think Rhinitis Medicamentosa (aka Afrin Addiction): the congestion worsens, and takes much longer to recover. When you have long-term congestion you need a different option.

    The Neti Pot hugely relieved my congestion. Most CVS, Walgreens and other pharmacies have them available over the counter. They are also available for purchase on Amazon (linked). Read the instructions carefully and be sure to used distilled or purified water. Do not use tap water if you use the Neti Pot.

  2. Body Movement

    Even on days I felt dreadful, moving my body in a way to loosen my muscles, channel my breathe, and circulate my blood flow made a huge difference. Some days, I stretched for 10 minutes and other days I felt well enough for 20 minutes of light yoga. It’s important to note that when I began, I certainly did not feel like doing the movement, however as the minutes progressed, I could feel how much it was helping my body relax.

  3. Epsom Salt

    In general, I find Epsom salt to be extremely helpful. As they dissolve, they release magnesium and sulfate ions. This relaxes your muscles and relieves pain, which is why many sports athletes use these salts to recover from hard workouts. In addition to this, the magnesium in Epsom salt can help relieve a headache. Some researchers also believe that magnesium helps by reducing inflammation in internal organs. Using Epsom salt daily during COVID relieved my brain fog, helped heal my infection, and relaxed my tense body.

    • Try: Epsom Salt bath daily or alternative (if bath is unavailable) is a foot soak

  4. Antioxidant Rich Foods

    Why? Remember Mucous Membranes from biology class? Mucous membranes are the thin layers of tissues that make the gunk we call mucus. It’s thick and sticky and when we are sick with congestion it feels like the mucus is everywhere. Antioxidant-rich foods, help protect and heal our mucous membranes, turning the sick yellow mucus back to a healthy white.

    Try: foods as citrus, kiwi, spinach, berries and other vegetables like broccoli, spinach, and captors. I recommend making a cool smoothie to south your throat as well for an added benefit!
