Can't Get Sunshine? Make Your Own

Maybe you've heard the saying before...

Sunshine Is The Best Medicine

Let's talk about what this saying really means.

Everyone is happier in the summertime, right? The sun is shining, the weather is warm, and we naturally seek outside activities and spend time sitting on patios, chatting with friends.

Why do we tend to feel happier during these times? Sunlight gives us the SUNSHINE VITAMIN, better known as Vitamin D. What does Vitamin D do?

- Helps fight disease

- Regulates mood and proved to ward off depression

- Natural appetite suppressant that can aid in weight loss

- Improves your sleep cycles

- Keeps your bones strong

In the summer time, we naturally have access to this wonderful vitamin, but, we often find fall and winter as more challenging times. Ask yourself Am I Someone Impacted by Lack Of Natural Light?

If you answered yes, try:

- Get a blood test from your doctor to determine your level of vitamin D: you may consider a supplement

- Opt for a technical solution in the form of a SAD light

- Eat fatty fish, like salmon and other seafood

- Try adding more mushrooms and egg yolks to your diet

- Make a conscious effort to step outside when you can

Often times with our work schedules AND our new work from home policies, we are stuck at home for large periods of the day. To the extent where days possible go by without stepping outside.

Make a conscious effort to get outside. Try:

1. Make a plan with a friend to meet up for a walk OR talk and chat while on the phone

2. Start a morning routine where you go for a brisk morning stroll before getting to work

3. Spend your lunch break reading outside

4. Try to walk to get some errands done rather than car

Remember.. Vitamin D is VITAL to your health and wellness. Seek it out! Enjoy the sun while you can and make a conscious effort to get enough of it!
